None

V. Approval of the Minutes of the Regular Meeting from April 5, 2011
A motion was made by Sam Barnes to approve the Minutes of April 5, 2011. Motion was seconded by Peg Viggiano. No discussion. The motion carried unanimously.

VI. Chairman’s Comments
1. We will need to choose a replacement for Student Representative Zach Towne who is graduating in June. S. Barnes will work with H. McNeil to find a suitable Sophomore boy.
2. The wrapped van looks great. The agency has received lots of positive comments.
3. This is a busy time of year for programming. There will be one more meeting of the Commission before the summer break.
4. We still need to fill the position of Clerk for the Commission but no success yet.

VIII. Director’s Report
A.. Summer Movies on the Beach (Harvey’s Beach) dates: July 8, July 29, August 12.
B. Summer Stock will begin June 27
Performances will be July 13, 14 and 15th
        Previews will be done at the Estuary and Apple Rehab
        Sign ups will be announced soon
C. Agency staff changes
Rory Laverty has resigned following her maternity leave. Brittany O’Neil, former college intern, will take over some summer programming responsibilities.
Additions to middle/high school outings will include skateboarding trip.
D. Local screening of Race to Nowhere film to be shown on Monday, May 23 7 PM at OSHS. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  
  • E. Hidden Treasures variety show scheduled for Friday, May 6 at 6:30 PM, OSHS
  • F. Still pursuing a replacement for Commission representation by the Nursing Board as required.
Nursing Board is interested in appointing two people (1 vote) to share the position.
1. By-laws were reviewed and nothing contrary to this idea was found.
2. Commission consensus that this was a viable option worth pursuing. S. Barnes will bring this idea forward to the First Selectman for guidance.
  • Exchange Club is having a wine tasting event 5/13/11 OSYFS and Westbrook Youth and Family will be the beneficiaries of the proceeds. In the past we have benefited from a $1300 donation to start a domestic violence prevention initiative.
IX. New Business
The Commission is soliciting nominees for the Personal  Achievement Awards to be given at the Awards Ceremony on June 9. S. Barnes and H. McNeil will work with the OSHS staff to identify worthy candidates.
Discussion about purchasing a camera for the back of the OSYFS van to ensure back up safety. Commission consensus that this is an idea worth pursuing.  H. McNeil will research  options for equipment and installation.

Motion made by P. Viggiano to adjourn at 6:05 PM. Seconded by D. Shearer. Next meeting scheduled for June 7, 2011 at Pasbeshauke Pavillion.
